A Monday night with nothing on TV...

Do you ever find things online that just make you smile... or laugh... or just feel good? Today I am going to share with you my favorite time waster of all time - finding fun things online! Here are a few of my most recent favorites:

Susan Boyle
on Youtube! I know that you have already seen it. I know that you have probably watched it 20 times already, but you just need to watch it again. It is just that good. I especially love Simon's face as he watches her!

Then, after you have been inspired that you too can make your dreams come true... I suggest just laying in bed instead with a laptop on your lap and check out StumbleUpon. This is great for those times when you still want to find fun things online, but don't know what you are looking for. You just press Stumble! on your computer and it takes you to great websites.

For example, tonight I went through my computer routine. 1) Turn on, 2) check email, 3) check facebook, 4) read friends' blogs... but then I still had some time... so, I clicked on my stumble button and actually said "oh, Wow!" outlouud as it took me to this page called Tastespotting. I don't even know what this website is about, but when I saw all the delicious food I just sighed outloud. HEAVEN!

I promise more pictures and stories of my sweet boy soon, but in the meantime, I need to look at some more pictures of food...mmmm!

It's Dr. Suess... Rhyming Required!

IMG_3231

Early in March
Dr. Suess turned fifty.
"We should celebrate," I said.
The response was, "nifty."

What should we do
To make class time more fun?
We could read some books...
We could go for a run.

"No, that would be silly,"
Miss Spencer replied.
"Let's have a class party!"
"GREAT IDEA!" I cried.

We'll need some streamers
And a big birthday cake...
One with the Cat in the Hat.
One I don't have to bake.

The kids should make crafts...
Become the Cat in the Hat
"What? I need a picture?
Oh man, don't I look fat?"

It is all in the fun
Of teaching preschool
Next year, celebrate with us
Our class is so cool!

He is Alive!

I hope that you and your family are celebrating a wonderful Easter weekend together! This week, we spent quite a bit of time at school and home talking about the meaning of Easter. There is no better sound than to hear your son say, "Jesus is alive!" when we ask him what Easter means.

My camera is once again in the trunk of my car, so until I decide to put on some shoes and go to my car, I don't have updated pictures! I will share with you a picture of my precious class (minus 1 student) a few weeks ago at chapel. I love teaching at a Christian school where we can talk about Jesus.

I hope that you home will be filled with thoughts of Jesus this weekend!

Easter and Lots of Jellybeans!

Easter 2008

easter bunny3

Today at church we celebrated Palm Sunday - the week that Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey while the people shouted "Hosanna!"

As we drove home from church today, I asked Austin about his day.

What did you learn at church today, AJ? I asked.

Mmmm... I'm not sure. The number nine? he responded (and since they learned the number nine at school on Friday, he wasn't far off).

Did you learn about Jesus riding into town on a donkey, and the people waving tree branches? I questioned, trying to spur his memory.

Mom, they were waving palm branches, not tree branches!

---------------------------------

Somehow today, Austin also managed to pull a chair into the pantry. Climb the chair to reach the jar of jelly beans and hide them in his bedroom.

I found him this morning, hiding behind his bedroom door, eating jelly beans.

He looked up at me with wide eyes and a huge look of guilt.

In the moment of catching my two-year-old with a mouth stained of pure colored sugar, I reacted by banning him for eternity from eating jelly beans. Never again, I said. You disobeyed mommy, and you cannot eat jelly beans anymore.

Watch what you say mom!

---------------------------------

Only a few hours later, I was tempting my son to use the potty by using that same jar of jelly beans!!!

What kind of mother am I???

One that knows how to get her kid to use the big boy potty. Twice tonight! Yes, twice! He used the big boy potty!

Socks, Shoes, and Things in the Bottom of your Purse...

It has been busy around the Q house. Here are just a few of my favorite moments over the past week in the midst of another PhD deadline this past Friday...

On Monday, I put Austin down for his nap. All was quiet for about 20 minutes, and I naturally assumed that my boy had quickly fallen asleep after a long morning at preschool. The faint calls of "ma-ma!" "ma-ma!" echoed throughout the house, and I realized that my dreams of a few quiet hours were fading away. His voice crescendo-ed into the loud cries of "MA-MA!"

As I walked into his room, I noticed that he had both socks (inside out) and shoes (on the wrong feet) on. "Austin?"

"Yes, mom?"

"Why did you put your socks and shoes on?"

"Just in case you decide that we should go to the zoo today!"

The zoo? We haven't talked about the zoo, haven't mentioned the zoo, haven't planned on the zoo. But, I guess, he wants to go to the zoo.

On Tuesday, I was Spring cleaning, and found several purses in my closet that haven't been used in quite some time.
The girls in my class would really enjoy playing with these during home center time, I thought to myelf.
I looked through all the pockets, and finding them clean, packed up the purses for the classroom's home living center.
I should have looked more closely!
Somewhere in the secret depths of the purses, I missed some cleaning.
What are these, Mrs. Quesenberry?
asked one of my students as she held a tampon in each hand the next day...
oh, just something for mommies... I explained!

I hope that you have had a wonderful week! I have another paper due this Friday, but I will try to write some in the midst of deadlines!!!
